RefMetrics connects historical game records with official assignments. Use the definitions below when comparing officials, teams, crews, and seasons.

Coverage and identity

Profile season ranges describe the records available in RefMetrics, not necessarily an official's entire career. Missing crew members, scores, penalty fields, and betting lines remain unavailable rather than being treated as zero. Corrected spellings may lead to the same identity; similar names alone do not establish that two records describe the same person.

Officials, crews, and game outcomes

A game can appear on the profiles of several officials who worked together. Those appearances are not independent games when combining profiles. Team foul and penalty totals describe the recorded game and crew context; they do not identify which official made each call or measure the accuracy of individual decisions.

Football crew comparisons distinguish a specific lineup from games involving an individual crew member. In baseball, home plate and base assignments have different responsibilities. Hockey referees and linespersons likewise serve different roles.

Samples and filters

Season, position, game type, home/away, and opponent filters can change the sample. Read the sample and coverage notes beside each table or chart. Historical data can be incomplete, and fields may cover different subsets of games. Home and away follow the listed team designation, including neutral-site games unless the page states otherwise.

Betting statistics

Against-the-spread (ATS) results compare the recorded score margin with the listed spread. Over/under results compare combined scoring with the recorded total. Pushes are tracked separately from wins and losses. Rates require eligible completed games and the relevant recorded line; the sample can therefore be smaller than the full assignment history.

Baseball uses run-line terminology. A home-plate umpire's game sample differs from a full crew's assignment sample. Historical associations do not establish causation or predict a future result.

Estimated officiating fees

Where shown, estimated salary or fees are calculated from recorded assignments and the applicable fee assumptions. They are estimates, not verified compensation, and may omit expenses, benefits, or assignments outside our coverage.

Current assignments and updates

Assignments and game status can change. Refer to the date and update information on each board. A missing official means the assignment is unavailable here; it does not mean the game has no assigned crew. Upcoming NCAA Football pages currently emphasize schedules and team trends where official assignments are unavailable.
